“Every Day in Every Way…”
Esperanza Men’s Basketball
Anthony Ballestero Coach
“Every Day in Every Way” is a motto that shapes the way our program is run.
“Every Day in Every Way” is an active decision to take advantage of everyday experiences, by turning them into opportunities for improvement. Success is built on mistakes. Success can not be attained without the countless errors made leading up to the success. “Everyday” we are given a chance to improve on your mistakes, sharpen skills, or learn something new. When our student athletes apply “Every Day in Every Way” consistently over time, they contribute to our programs success, our schools success and their individual achievements
Coaching Philosophy: Use basketball as a tool to develop successful skills/habits you can apply to other areas of your life.
The game of basketball is 90% mental so we focus on developing players with a ”Strong Mental Game”. The mental side can include: pressure situations, decision making, critical thinking, being 2 to 3 plays ahead, confidence in self, filling a role, sacrifices and many more. As a Coaching Staff we encourage our student-athletes to put forth full effort on the court as well as in the classroom. Giving your full effort, especially in basketball, can lead to mistakes and errors. These opportunities are important for us as coaches to point out and correct in a positive manner. To discourage a mistake would be to discourage development. Getting our players to understand the importance of making mistakes while giving a full effort has resulted in quicker development and more confident student-athletes.
Over the years we have found that these 3 guiding principles allow for athletes to flourish in the game of basketball:
1. Coachability/Listening: Being a player that can accept direction, take criticism positively, understanding their role and filling it to the best of their ability, and be willing to learn from their coach.
2. Love the Game: Enjoy the sport you play, practicing on your own time or with outside programs. Create time on your own to work on your game.
3. Take on the “Every Day in Every Way” mindset: Understanding that your best is yet to come so making consistent improvements every day will lead to future successes.
